All Virtual Office Unlimited and Metered extensions come with a terminal adapter and feature rich pre-programmed Virtual Office phone. These phones are connected to the Packet8 Virtual Office service via the Internet using the included adapter. Since all calls are transferred over the Internet, Virtual Office extensions can be located anywhere in the world and include unlimited extension-to-extension dialing, regardless of the subscribers' geographical location

Once your Virtual Office service is configured and your phones are plugged in, you're done. After a simple activation process, you can start making and receiving calls. All the great features of Packet8 service, including ring groups, voicemail, auto-attendant, extension dialing and other advanced call management features are immediately available and ready for use.

Installing and activating your Packet8 account is quick and easy. Packet8 equipment is shipped with a default configuration that allows it to be automatically configured with the required network settings using DHCP. As with any computer or network device, not every environment is the same and may require procedures that differ from the default procedures.

The standard installation procedure assumes:

  • You have a high-speed internet connection (cable/DSL/other)
  • A router or gateway to share your internet connection
  • DHCP running on your network

1. Installation of your hardware



2. Activate your Packet8 Account

After installing your hardware, you are ready to activate your Packet8 account. You will need your 10-digit activation which can be found on your account web page after logging in to your account. Enter the email address and password used to create the account in the account login section to the left.

  1. Pick up your telephone handset and dial any phone number.
  2. Follow the voice instructions and enter your 10-digit code.
  3. If you have entered a valid code, your account will be activated and your Packet8 phone number will be read back to you. This number can also be found on your account web page.

3. Start making calls!


  • You can dial seven digits when calling within your area code (10 digits when there is more than one area code assigned to your region), the same as you would with a traditional phone line. To make a local call:
Dial 7-digit phone number For example: 555-1212
  • Dialing outside the area code requires using 11 digits. To make a long distance call in the U.S. or Canada:
Dial 1 + area code + phone number For example: 1-408-555-1212
  • To make an international phone call: Dial IDD (international direct dialing) prefix + country code + phone number
For example:
Dialing from the U.S. to the U.K.: 011 + 44 + 292-092-038-0336
Dialing from the U.K. to the U.S.: 00 + 1 + 408-555-1212
